Welcome to Ready, Set, Study! This course will explicitly teach students grades 5-8 and 9-12  to master their own skills. Having an open mind is imperative: students are in control of their own behavior! By the end of the course:

1. Efficiently and independently organize school materials, including homework materials

2. Manage time more effectively

3. Use various learning strategies to increase performance in reading, writing, math and language

4. Use memory strategies to increase long-term retention

5. Master note-taking strategies to increase long-term retention

6. Fine-tune study and test-taking strategies that will help students study and remember important

7. Use improved listening skills to be an effective listener and learner

Class Materials: Each Student must purchase a workbook created by Research for Better Schools entitled, SOS-Strengthening of Skills, Basic Manual. There will be supplemental reading materials and worksheets provided by the instructor. In addition to the workbook, students should come to class with a 2010-2011 school year planner, AND your choice of a large 3 ring binder with 6-8 dividers OR and accordion folder that can accommodate 6-9 subjects. A writing utensil, highlighter and sticky notes would be useful as well.
